Geosciences
Division is one of the oldest divisions of the
Institute looking after the needs and priorities
of geosciences from all over the country. It has
cont- -ributed significantly in catering to the
education of professionals in the field of Remote
Sensing Applic- -ations to professionals from
premier geological org- -anization of India such
as Geological survey of India, Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation, Atomic Mineral Divi- -sion, Central
Ground Water Board, State Mining and Geological
Departments, Ground Water Departments, various
universities and colleges. It has revolutionised
the concept of GIS in solving many geological
problems and has introduced special courses with a
collaboration of ITC, Enschede, The Netherlands,
to strengthen the trained manpower based in the
highly specialized field in India. Apart from this
it offers many other tailor made specialized
courses ( e.g. on Neotectonics ) for geoscientific
professionals from India and abroad. It has a
dedicated team of experienced scientists pursuing
their career goals in the field of landslide
modelling, spatial predictive modelling, mineral
exploration and its safe exploitation, ground
water exploration and its management, rout
alignment and geological hazard survey. It has
carried out many national and Internat- -ional
assignments and look forward to collabarate with
international agencies for solving some of the
geoscien- -tific problems using remote sensing and
GIS techniques.
