Geoinformatics
Geoinformatics Division of IIRS is the latest technological
division set up with the collaboration of ITC, Enschede,The
Netherlands, to take care of various geoinformatics needs
of resource divisions of IIRS as well as other departments.
It is set up with most modern facility for analysis, management and production of information related to various
aspects of earth surface and resources. It is planned to
become the main technological centre for geospatical
analysis and modelling. It aims to concentrate on technology
development in the areas of GIS , computer application,
database management , spatial analysis and modelling
techniques, decisino support system and expert syste-
-m. It also organises specialised training programmes for
user departments and undertakes consultancy projects
in the area of specialization.
The division comprises of different types of labs, in order
to cater multifarious needs of students, users, researchers
and national projects. The division has been a pioneer in
advanced researches to say few - spatial predictive modeling, object oriented segmentation for High resolution
satellite images, fuzzy based analysis and latest Inter-
-net based GIS establishment. The division possesses
around 50 computers available 24 hours to the students
and researchers. It also has 24 hours round the year availability of dedicated internet facility. It provides a
possibility for inputting the spatial data through scanner,
digitizer and outputting through Laser printer and Plotters of varying size from A4 to A0
